Tap Into the Power of Textures

We often overlook the importance of textures when decorating a space. Most people think of a texture in terms of sensation they can feel by touch, but there’s more to it than that. For example, an image of a piece of wood will give you a sense of roughness, and even warmth, because of its natural grains. Your mind will remind you of that sense because of a visual association or the perception of what that surface might feel like.

When using textures, you’re adding levels of dimension to your design, so they become very useful on monochromatic décor or when the palette is very similar.

As with color and temperature, using rough textures adds a sense of coziness and warmth while absorbing light, whereas softer and glossier textures will feel cooler and lighter by reflecting light. Try incorporating either visual or tactile textures with the use of rugs, wood accessories, wall art, wallpaper or decorative pillows for a fun and elevated look.
